REPORT ON INNOVATIVE WORK

INTRODUCTION

Innovation in its modern meaning is "a new idea, creative thoughts, new imaginations in form of device or method". Innovation is  often also viewed as the application of better solutions that meet new requirements, unarticulated needs, or existing market needs. In order to fulfill the curricular achievements of the B.Ed course we teacher trainees had to prepare an innovative  work in the fourth semester for the high school section. During the course of my teaching practice session I found out that majority of the students in the high school section lacked a proper vocabulary. Once in the class while dealing with the section of synonyms I found out that most of my kids were struggling to give the proper answers for the synonym exercise which I had provided them. Considering this situation I decided to implement  a novel way as to help my students learn synonyms in a more easy way. So as my innovative  work I decided to prepare a chart on synonyms and also a clock on synonyms.

PROCEDURE

Through this chart and clock  my main intention was to make my students enrich their vocabulary in a play-way method. On the last day of my teaching practice, I implemented my innovative work on my class VIII. H. At first I gave my kids a short intro on the element synonyms. Most of them were familiar with it. After that I presented them with my chart on synonyms titled ''Shades of Synonyms''. As I had prepared my chart in a rather colourful manner, my students were very excited . I had selected a set of 16 words that were familiar to my students. Many of them knew only the words but were unfamiliar with their synonyms. I had prepared three synonyms for each of these words thus bringing in a total of 64 words. Then I made each student read out the word and its synonym in the class thus making them familiar with these words. It was quite interesting for my kids and thus they were much energetic and enthusiastic in the class to read out the chart.

After making my kids familiar with the words and their synonyms I provided them with the second section of my innovative work. It was a ''Clock on Synonyms'' designed to test how far the students have comprehended the words on the chart. Each word from the set of 16 words and a corresponding synonym was written on the clock. The clock had two needles. I called out each student to the front  of the class and gave them a word from the chart. The student had to place one needle of the clock on the word given by the teacher and the other needle on the corresponding synonym. Students were much enthusiastic to play with the clock and find out the synonyms.

CONCLUSION

The innovative work which I presented in the class turned out to be a resourceful one. Almost all of them gave the correct answer in the second section of working with the synonym clock . It  proved that my work helped in improving the vocabulary of my kids to a great extend. As I had deviated from the normal method of traditional classroom and taught them through a play way method, I hope that my kids were  able to comprehended these words much easily and also that these would stay in their memory for a longer period.
