REPORT ON INNOVATIVE LESSON PLAN
REPORT ON INNOVATIVE LESSON PLAN
INTRODUCTION
In order to fulfill the curricular requirements of the practice teaching session , we had to prepare an innovative lesson plan which had to be implemented in the class . As I had prepared my innovative work on vocabulary enrichment as a sequel to it I thought of organizing a class for enriching the vocabulary of my kids. I wanted to add more words to their personal word bank. For that the first idea that came to my mind is making my children enrich their vocabulary through a series of games. So as my innovative lesson plan I introduced a series of three games and two activities that I felt that would enrich the vocabulary of my kids.
PROCEDURE
In the previous phase of my practice teaching session, I had presented my students an album that contained a set of words which often got confused. First of all I gave my students an activity that recalled those words. I gave a set of five words from that set and asked five of them in the class to guess the meaning of those words. After this activity I gave my students a puzzle. All these were intended to refresh the memory of the students and thus make them prepare for the games. Collaborative learning strategy was adopted for the smooth implementation of the games. Through the games, I wanted to develop in my students a spirit of good sportsman ship and co-operation. So I divided the class into six groups. The first game I implemented was STOP THE BUS. It was actually a group game. The game was as follows- each team had to take out a sheet of paper, the teacher would write an alphabet on the blackboard, group members had to discuss among themselves and writes words starting with that letter. They cannot write any words on random but had to pick out words from only specified categories. The categories included- something in the kitchen, in the drawing room, bed room etc... .Students had to choose such words and should complete the sheet as soon as possible. The second game was quite interesting. Teacher writes a set of five things that the students have to name eg; Name five things that move, five drinks likewise. A member of the team writes the category of things they have to name and the whole team shout out the words. The last game was HOT SEAT. A member from each team had to come forward and sit on the chair on the front of the class by facing the class. Teacher writes a content word on the board. The team members should give clues to the student to identify the word on the board through ways such as telling the synonym of the word, describing the word etc.... A time limit was kept for the game. These were the three games I introduced in the class as a part of my innovative lesson plan.
CONCLUSION
The games I introduced as a part of my innovative lesson plan proved out to be a good one. Students were so much interested that they even asked me to come another period so as to continue with the game. Almost all of them participated in these games in one way or the other. As a concluding part, I presented them with two videos that would enhance their vocabulary. All of them were enthusiastic to view the videos.
